An extract from an email I’ve just received:

“As we are trying to have a carbon free Christmas this year…”

So, no Coal as a gift this year ?

Bah. Humbug.

But coal as a gift is perfectly fine. There’s no damage to the environment – it’s sequestered. Setting fire to it would be the unsound part; who in their right mind would burn a present that someone gave to them? It’d be pretty mean-spirited.

Just don’t tell anyone that diamond is also an environmentally sound gift.

I assume that your correspondent won’t be breathing over the christmas period?
